The Cricket on the Hearth Christmas Books series Book 3 eBook Charles Dickens
I am a longtime fan of Charles Dickens, so, not too surprised that I liked this, as well. A shorter novel, it introduces each character thoroughly, beginning with the family who belong to the Cricket. Mr. Dickens weaves a world that is easy to see, and includes his trademark touches of humor - such as the baby's nanny, and the boxer dog. Spend some time with the Cricket on the Hearth. You won't regret it!Product details

The Cricket on the Hearth Christmas Books series Book 3 eBook Charles Dickens Reviews
Not as good as " A Christmas Carol"; but shows the value of not jumping to conclusions and marrying for love.
I love Dickens' work but had to force my way through this one. The characters and character names were great. Very nice surprise ending but the story rambled. The ramble made it confusing. I think it would be much better as a shorter piece. Definitely needed more cricket and less hearth.
Although short and simple, this book contains many of the attributes that make Dickens such a great author. The subtle humor and excessively emotionalized characters capture the reader's attention and make the book highly enjoyable.
I guess I'm not as interested as I had hoped in the complete Charles DIckens read. Perhaps a Cliffs Notes or a quick paragraph of the cricket's meaning is better for me.
Great little love story about two people others would see as mismatched. Their story is intertwined with the usual Dickens' characters, those with nasty dispositions and wealth and of course the opposite, the downtrodden and sickly. But then there is always the surprise at the end!
I am so glad that I found this book on , and for free at that, I could not put it down once I started reading it.
This short novel yet again showcases Dickens' dry wit. Typical of Dickens, The Cricket on the Hearth makes a statement about social customs and societal mores of the 19th century. This is one of Dicken's less serious works and is an 'easy read'. Ricardo Silverburn, children's author.
This story was...odd. The very ending was okay, but the bulk of it just seemed pointless. There wasn't a clear purpose to the story. Any plot was largely undefined until right at the end. The storytelling style was also rather quirky, with some asides that I can only imagine as a storyteller's asides to children, except many of them don't seem like the kinds of things one says to children. It isn't awful, but it really isn't worth the time investment to read it, either.
